Manchester United suffered a scare last night, eventually beating Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford after trailing at half-time.

An own goal from Manuel Ugarte put the visitors ahead, but Ruben Amorim’s side were saved by a 12-minute spell from star man Amad Diallo, who scored a hat-trick, leading the Red Devils to victory.

The Ivorian’s strikes took him to six goals and six assists in the Premier League during 2024/25, undoubtedly proving the biggest beneficiary from the 39-year-old’s appointment back in November.

The win moves the Red Devils into 12th place, hopefully the turning point for the new manager in his tenure at Old Trafford over the coming months.

Amad’s moments of brilliance undoubtedly bailed out numerous first-team players who were unable to make an impact on proceedings, putting their first-team places at risk amid the January transfer window.

Despite the recent rumours about his future in the North West, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo started the meeting, but would only last 45 minutes before being replaced by Antony.

The Englishman failed to win any of the five duels that he entered, often looking wasteful in possession, losing the ball six times within his 29 touches.

Mainoo also committed one foul and failed to make any tackles as United trailed at the break against the side who currently occupy the bottom of the league table.

Young centre-back Leny Yoro was recalled to the starting lineup for the clash with the Saints, but was unable to stake his claim, often unable to contain Kamaldeen Sulemana throughout the encounter.

The Frenchman was eventually replaced by Harry Maguire after being dribbled past three times and only winning one of the six duels he entered – highlighting his lack of impact.

Despite the struggles of the aforementioned pair, one other Red Devils starter failed to impress, potentially casting doubt over his long-term future at Old Trafford after yet another dismal outing.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund was lucky to start the clash against Southampton after his disappointing display at the Emirates against Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend.

However, Amorim stuck by the Dane to provide the goods within the final third, but like in North London on Sunday, he was unable to make any form of tangible impact.

The 21-year-old only managed to feature for 53 minutes, before once again being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, just as he did against the Gunners a number of days ago.

It’s safe to say his substitution was warranted, managing just 18 touches during his time on the pitch – an average of one every three minutes he featured in the victory.

Hojlund also only managed to register a single shot against the bottom side, completing just eight passes in the process, unable to aid his teammates within the final third.

He also only won two of his ten duels, subsequently losing 80% of them, also losing possession six times and looking completely toothless – with journalist Samuel Luckhurst dubbing the big-money man as “hopeless”.

As a result of his disastrous showing, Luckhurst awarded the attacker a measly 3/10 match rating, undoubtedly casting doubt on his starting role and or future with the Red Devils.

Amorim simply has to take action ahead of the weekend’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, desperately needing to consider other options as a potential focal point.

Ultimately, his and Zirkzee’s lack of form is an indication to the hierarchy as to how badly the side need reinforcements at the top end of the pitch before the end of the window, with Amad certainly saving Amorim from an embarrassing defeat.

Everton are one of a host of clubs who have been offered the chance to sign a speedy new attacking player in the January transfer window, according to a new update.

Everton seeking striker reinforcements

The Blues continue to be linked with new signings in the coming days, with Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi seen as a possible option. The 27-year-old has had to accept playing second fiddle to the impressive Chris Wood this season, making only two starts in the Premier League, so a move to another club midway through the campaign could appeal to him.

Rangers striker Hamza Igamane is another rumoured target for Everton, with the 22-year-old a young player with a huge amount of potential, scoring nine goals in only 13 Scottish Premiership starts this season. He also has four goals in as many starts in the Europa League, showing that he can cut it in one of Europe’s top competitions.

Sean Longstaff has also been backed to seal a move to the Blues before the end of the window, having fallen down the midfield pecking order at Newcastle United this season, following the excellent form of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton. The Englishman could be a shrewd addition at Goodison Park, providing David Moyes with extra legs in the middle of the park.

Everton offered chance to sign "flamboyant" ace

According to a new report from Calciomercato, Everton have been offered the opportunity to sign AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze, with the Serie A giants looking to generate funds for new signings by selling fringe players.

The Blues are far from the only club in the mix to snap up the 25-year-old, however, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Tottenham all mentioned as potential suitors.

Chukwueze is the type of player that Everton could badly do with right now, given the attacking quality he possesses, primarily cutting inside from the right-hand side. The Nigerian has been described as “flamboyant” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, and he bagged 68 goal contributions (37 goals and 31 assists) in 207 appearances for Villarreal before his move to Milan.

The fact that Milan are seemingly so willing to sell Chukwueze is merely financial, rather than them not rating him, and Everton should be looking to swoop in and sign a player whose best years are still likely to be ahead of him.

ويذكر التقرير أن زيادة راتب يامال، لن تسبب أي مشكلة للنادي عندما يتعلق الأمر بتسجيله، استنادًا للبند الذي يسمح للاعبين الذين تقل أعمارهم عن 24 عامًا بتجديد عقودهم، دون النظر لسقف الرواتب، على أن يكون اللاعب مرتبطا بشكل كامل بنفس النادي لمدة ثلاثة مواسم متتالية على الأقل وهو ما ينطبق على يامال.

ويرتدي أنسو فاتي حاليًا الرقم 10 مع برشلونة، ومن المتوقع أن يغادر صفوف الفريق في السوق الصيفية (طالع التفاصيل من هنا).

وحال مغادرة فاتي، سيكون الرقم 10 شاغرًا، وسيحصل يامال على الرقم الذي سبق وارتداه النجم الأرجنتيني ليونيل ميسي مع برشلونة.

قرر الاتحاد المصري لكرة السلة، برئاسة عمرو مصيلحي، اعتماد إقامة مباراة فاصلة واحدة لتحديد صاحب المركز الثالث في دوري السوبر لكرة السلة للموسم 2024/2025، وذلك بين فريقي الزمالك وسبورتنج.

وجاء القرار استجابة لطلب مشترك من الناديين، حيث تم الاتفاق على إقامة المباراة يوم الإثنين المقبل، الموافق 26 مايو، في تمام الساعة السادسة مساءً، على صالة الشباب والرياضة بمدينة السادس من أكتوبر.

وكان من المقرر أن تُقام سلسلة تحديد المركزين الثالث والرابع بنظام Best of 3 على مدار أيام 26 و28 و29 مايو، قبل أن يتم تعديل النظام إلى مباراة واحدة حاسمة.

وتأهل الزمالك وسبورتنج إلى مباراة تحديد المركز الثالث بعد خسارتهما في نصف النهائي، حيث ودّع الزمالك البطولة أمام الأهلي بنتيجة 3-2، فيما خسر سبورتنج أمام الاتحاد السكندري بنتيجة 3-1.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الاتحاد السكندري مع الأهلي في سلسلة النهائي لحسم لقب دوري السوبر.

After two quiet windows for Arne Slot, which have seen Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili the only players to come in, a far busier summer is expected at Anfield next time around.

One player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool at the end of this season is Netherlands and RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons. The 21-year-old has only recently signed for the German side permanently from Paris Saint-Germain, but they will reportedly look to move him on in the summer for a handsome profit.

Another player who has been mentioned as an option for the Reds is Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson, who is a hugely exciting young player. The Merseysiders are reportedly ahead of the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to snap up the 20-year-old Swede.

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future still isn’t sorted, with a new deal not yet signed, so potential replacements will need to be eyed up, should the worst-case scenario happen. West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has been backed to come in, with the England international enjoying another impressive season in the Premier League, scoring six goals and registering four assists in the competition.

Liverpool make contact over signing "world-class" ace

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have been in contact with Barcelona sporting director Deco over the signing of Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Richard Hughes has talked about a move for the 27-year-old midfielder, with Barca thought to be willing to sell him at the end of the season.

De Jong has been mentioned as a target for Liverpool for some time now, with a transfer not yet materialising, but it is easy to see him thriving for the Reds in the middle of the park.

The Dutchman possesses the technical expertise to slot right in alongside the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. He has a 94.6% pass completion rate in La Liga this season, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig calling him “world-class” back in 2019. Former manager Xavi also once said of him:

“Frenkie de Jong is playing at a spectacular level, he gives us a lot. I think he’s one of the best midfielders in the world right now.”

However, there is a reason why Liverpool may have reservations about signing De Jong, if Barca are so willing to let him move on to pastures new in the summer.

At 27, he arguably hasn’t kicked on like many expected he would since his Ajax days, at which point he was seen as one of the future star midfielders of his generation.

That’s not to say that Slot wouldn’t necessarily like to have a player of De Jong’s class in his squad, but there would be risks when it comes to signing him, so a younger alternative may make more sense this summer, as well as a more naturally defence-minded option in order to add balance to the squad.

واختتم: “كل العالم يقول إن الزمالك دائمًا يُعاني من أزمات، ورغم ذلك نحصد بطولات، إذًا هل نحن أبطال أم لا؟ هذه أسوأ سنة للقلعة البيضاء لأننا خسرنا معظم البطولات، لكن رغم ذلك وصلنا لنهائي كأس مصر، وحتى آخر 4 أسابيع كنا ننافس على الدوري أيضًا”.
