Forget Marmoush: Man City hit gold over star who’s now worth 218% more

What a performance it was from new Manchester City signing Omar Marmoush against Newcastle United. The Premier League champions thrashed Eddie Howe’s side 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium, with the Egyptian attacker getting a scintillating hattrick.

Marmoush scored his first goal in the 19th minute, and by the 33rd, he had three goals.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt man starred, helping his new club to an important win against a top-four rival. Simon Bajkowski, chief Manchester City writer for The Manchester Evening News, was certainly complimentary of Marmoush. He gave him a 9/10 rating and described his performance as ‘explosive’.

However, it was not just the new City number seven who was a standout player. There were plenty of impressive performances against Newcastle.

City’s standout players vs. Newcastle

Another of the best City players against the Magpies was someone who Pep Guardiola described as a “mini Rodri”, new signing Nico Gonzalez. The former FC Porto man looked right at home in their midfield.

The stats from the game, courtesy of Sofascore, show just how well the midfielder performed. He had 114 touches and completed 97% of his passes, with the influence from his time in Barcelona’s La Masia academy shining through. He also won four out of four ground duels.

Attacking midfielder James McAtee also impressed for the Citizens against Newcastle. Despite minimal opportunities in 2024/25, he has, on the whole, made it count. McAtee has scored six times this season, which includes two Premier League goals in his last three appearances.

Manchester City'sJamesMcAteecelebrates after the match

It was an excellent performance against the Magpies from two of City’s new January signings and an academy player. One of their summer signings, Savinho, was a standout out, too. He has been superb since moving to the Etihad Stadium.

Savinho’s current market value

The Brazil international was on fire against Howe’s side. He registered an assist, creating the third goal for Marmoush, as well as completing three dribbles and winning six ground duels. It was a fantastic performance to build on his exploits this season.

Savinho has certainly impressed Guardiola during his time at City so far. After their most recent outing at the Etihad Stadium, he explained that he “wasn’t expecting this super impact” from the Brazilian to start his career in England.

The 20-year-old has managed two goals and nine assists in 33 appearances this season across all competitions. Of those, one goal and seven assists have come in the Premier League. It has been a superb start to life in the English top flight.

The City winger has got some impressive stats on Sofascore, too. In just 15 starts in the Premier League, Savinho has created ten big chances and averages 1.6 key passes per game. He is a creative machine.

Signing the “electric” winger, as football analyst Ben Mattinson described him, has been a superb investment so far from the Citizens. They brought him into the club in the summer from French side Troyes, a sister club of City, for a fee of £30.8m.

It might be unsurprising to hear that, since his move, the Brazilian’s value has shot up. He is now deemed to be worth around £98m by CIES Football Observatory. That is an incredible rise of 218% from what they paid for him just months ago.

Savinho

It does not seem like the 20-year-old will slow down any time soon, either. He has hit the ground running in the Premier League, and surely will only get better.

It seems unlikely City will sell him, at least for a while, but Savinho has been worth every penny so far, and will surely only increase in value.

Pucovski takes indefinite leave of absence from cricket

The break is for personal reasons that are unrelated to his repeated concussion troubles over the years

Will Pucovski has taken an indefinite leave of absence from cricket for personal reasons that are unrelated to his repeated concussion troubles over the years.Pucovski played in Victoria’s first two Marsh Cup and Sheffield Shield games of the new season earlier this month, but he did not play in the last two Marsh Cup games against Western Australia and Tasmania and has not been named in the Sheffield Shield side that will face Tasmania in Hobart on Saturday after requesting for – and being granted – leave. The leave is understood to be similar to that of Meg Lanning. Pucovski’s leave is indefinite with no timeframe on when he is likely to return.Related

Pucovski: 'It's been a reality check – there's so much more to life'

Cricket Victoria released a statement on Thursday saying they would continue to provide all necessary specialist support to Pucovski and asked that his privacy be respected during this time.”Player welfare is always our top priority,” Cricket Victoria general manager of cricket performance Graham Manou said. “We’ll continue to work with Will to ensure he gets the support and space he needs and welcome him back when he’s ready.”Manou spoke on radio on Friday and detailed that there had been signs that Pucovski had been struggling.”In terms of preparation for him and our group in general we had our psych [psychologist] in Adelaide for the first Shield game and there were a couple of warning signs there,” Manou said. “Then during the Shield game against WA a few things came to a head for Will. As he has been throughout, he took another courageous decision to take a little bit of time out from the game to prioritise his health.”At Cricket Victoria we’ve got a fantastic psychologist in Mary Spillane who has been working closely with Will and our playing group both male and female.”He’ll seek a little bit of extra support over the next few weeks just to give him some additional and some specialist work to help him develop some coping mechanisms.”The most important thing is that through this process we’re actually setting him up for life well beyond cricket.”Pucovski, 24, has taken leave from Victoria for personal reasons several times in his short career. These have been separate from his absences because of concussion, concussion-related issues and his shoulder injury.Pucovski’s previous breaks from the game that weren’t related to his physical injuries had come prior to his Test debut in January 2021. He took a break following his first Shield double-century in October 2018 and then took another break after being called up to the Australia squad in February later that summer for a two-Test series against Sri Lanka. In November 2019, he made himself unavailable for Test selection after playing for Australia A.But since playing his only Test match, his breaks have been mainly down to physical issues. He dislocated his shoulder in that Sydney Test against India and needed a reconstruction that ended his season. In October 2021, he was concussed while batting in the nets. In February this year, on return from that concussion, he suffered concussion-like symptoms in a game against South Australia and required a break but was later cleared of formal concussion from that incident. He had been optimistic about his physical health ahead of this summer. He made a half-century in last season’s Sheffield Shield final and another in his first game of the season against New South Wales. He had travelled to India in the off-season to train at the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai with a select group of young Australian players with an eye towards Australia’s future tours to the subcontinent.

Celtic close to losing prolific teen star, it’s an awful Doak repeat

Celtic are enjoying a phenomenal season as they sit 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, are in the play-off phase of the Champions League, and have already won the League Cup.

Youth has not played a significant role in their success, though, as 31-year-old midfielder Callum McGregor is the only academy graduate to have started matches on a regular basis for Brendan Rodgers this term.

Callum McGregor

The Hoops have not been adept at bringing through academy talent into the first-team in recent years, as they lost Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata to Millwall and Watford respectively last summer.

Possibly the biggest example of a prodigious talent that got away, however, is Scotland international Ben Doak, who came through the youth set-up in Glasgow before sealing a move to England.

Ben Doak's untapped Celtic potential

The teenage sensation made his way through the academy ranks at Parkhead before he made two first-team appearances under Ange Postecoglou at the age of 16 in the 2021/22 campaign.

However, the Scottish giants were unable to convince the young winger to remain at the club beyond his contract at the time and Premier League side Liverpool swooped in to secure his services for a reported compensation fee of £600k in the summer of 2022.

Doak racked up ten first-team appearances in his first two seasons with the Reds before being sent out on loan to Middlesbrough, where he has produced three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship matches in the 2024/25 campaign.

These statistics show that the 19-year-old whiz has made a big impact at the top end of the pitch in the second tier of English football, and that indicates that he could have been a great option for the Hoops to have in their current squad.

Liverpool reportedly put a £30m price tag on his head in the January transfer window, amid interest from Premier League side Crystal Palace, which illustrates how much untapped potential there was for the Hoops with the forward.

They missed out on a terrific talent and a hugely valuable asset by failing to convince him to turn down a move to Anfield to stay in Glasgow and compete for a place under Postecoglou.

Doak, who has been capped six times by Scotland at senior level, has quickly developed into an excellent player at first-team level since his move away from the Hoops.

Transfer Focus

Celtic are now facing an awful repeat of this situation – losing a talented youngster who could go on to great things – as one of their B team stars is set for a move to the Premier League this summer.

Celtic set to lose teen star

According to ExWHUEmployee, on TheWestHamWay’s Patreon, Celtic centre-forward Daniel Cummings is in the process of completing a medical with West Ham United.

The report claims that the Scottish youngster started parts of his medical with the Premier League side on Sunday and that it has continued on Monday, ahead of a summer switch to the London outfit.

Cummings is out of contract at the end of the season and it was reported, in January, that Celtic were due to offer him a new contract to remain at Parkhead on fresh terms.

ExWHUEmployee’s report adds that the Hammers are due to pay a compensation fee for the teenage striker, as he has been trained by the Hoops, but it is unclear as to how much that will be at this point.

It also reveals that West Ham chief Mark Noble, who previously captained the Hammers in the Premier League, was ‘influential’ in convincing the forward to pick a move to the London Stadium.

The Hoops appear to have left it too late to decide to offer the young attacker a contract extension, waiting until the last five months of his deal, and it looks set to sting them as Cummings is now close to a move to England, and it could be an awful repeat of the Doak situation.

Why Daniel Cummings could be Ben Doak 2.0

The former Celtic winger, as aforementioned, has gone on to become a £30m-rated talent who has proven himself at first-team level in the Championship in England, after leaving Parkhead for a paltry £600k.

Whilst it remains to be seen how much compensation West Ham will have to pay for Cummings, the Hoops are not going to get a multi-million-pound sum for the 18-year-old marksman, but he has the potential to become a hugely valuable asset in the future.

The Scotland U19 international has been in incredible form in all competitions for the academy this season, with a staggering return of 25 goals in 28 matches.

Cummings has been a prolific centre-forward for the B team and U19 side, with 19 goals in 20 Lowland League games and six goals in seven UEFA Youth League outings, and was rewarded with a first-team debut against Aston Villa off the bench at the end of January.

As you can see in the table above, the 18-year-old attacker has continually improved his output in the final third season-on-season in the Lowland League for the B team.

These statistics show that Cummings is on an upward trajectory and that is improving as a player each year, which is a promising sign for West Ham as they are set to sign a prolific teen who is just getting better and better.

Whilst there is no guarantee that the young marksman will go on to become a star in the Premier League for the Hammers, or go on to be valued at £30m like Doak, his incredible form and development for Celtic suggests that the potential is there for him to do so.

Therefore, the Hoops are on the verge of an awful repeat of the Doak situation as they could watch Cummings go to England to thrive, instead of convincing him to stay and eventually emerge as a star in the first-team for Rodgers.

Celtic appear to have made a wise move by cashing in on one former hero

ByRobbie Walls Feb 17, 2025

There is a worrying trend emerging of young players deciding that moving down south to develop in England is better for them than staying at Celtic and the Bhoys need to find a way of convincing their best talents that their development is best served at Parkhead if they want to produce quality academy graduates.

Warner – 'I'm not a criminal. You should get the right of an appeal'

Batter set to apply to have his lifetime leadership ban reviewed after CA announced changes to the code of conduct that allows him to have his ban modified

David Warner was handed a lifetime captaincy ban by Cricket Australia in 2018•AFP

David Warner has expressed his frustration at how long it has taken Cricket Australia to allow him to apply to have his lifetime leadership ban reviewed, describing the process as traumatic and disappointing. On Monday CA announced that it amended its code of conduct which previously stated that players do not have the right to have a sanction reviewed once it has been accepted. Warner had been unable to hold a captaincy position in Australian cricket after being handed a lifetime ban as a result of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, with the sanction falling under the previous code of conduct.Related

CA opens door to Warner leadership return after amending code of conduct

Speaking at a promotion event for Kayo Sports on Monday, that was not organised by CA, Warner vented his frustration.”I’m not a criminal,” Warner said. “You should get a right of an appeal at some stage. I understand that they put a ban in place but banning someone for life, I think it’s a bit harsh.”Where it’s been disappointing, it’s taken this long to get to where it has. It was brought up in I think February this year. So it’s been drawn out. It’s traumatic for me and my family and everyone else that was involved in it. We haven’t needed to go back into that detail. We don’t need to relive what happened.”Warner was particularly annoyed about how he was being painted in this process as it has all unfolded during a time when Australia is experiencing a leadership change in limited-overs cricket. Aaron Finch retired from the ODI team in September. Pat Cummins was appointed as the ODI captain in October with a wider leadership group sitting underneath him, all while Warner was still ineligible to captain his country in any format.”It’s frustrating because we could have done this about nine months ago when it was first brought up,” Warner said. “It’s unfortunate that obviously Finchy retired and then they sort of fast-tracked it in their own way. But it’s a tad disappointing that when you make a decision in 2018, it’s in four days, and then this takes nine months.”So that’s the hardest thing. It actually makes me look like I’m campaigning, which I’m totally not. So from my perspective, that’s where it’s been disappointing.Pat Cummins has replaced Aaron Finch as Australia’s ODI captain•AP Photo

“But it’s good to get in a position where we are now today. And it gives me an opportunity to ring up the integrity unit to therefore have a word to them and put forward my case of I guess, the 100 hours [of community service] that I did in 2018 for what happened. Basically, all this good behavior stuff that I’ve done, I think I have to put forward so I’m happy to do that.”The CA board requested a code of conduct review at the October board meeting that was conducted by CA’s current head of integrity Jacqui Partridge. Warner’s ban in 2018 was handed down under a different head of integrity, Iain Roy, who did the investigation into the sandpaper incident in Cape Town. There was also a different CA CEO in James Sutherland, a different head of high performance in Pat Howard, and only one current CA director, John Harnden, remains from the 2018 board that handed down Warner’s lifetime leadership ban in the days after Cape Town.Under the new code of conduct, Warner has to formally apply to have his ban modified, which CA outlined in a statement.”Any applications will be considered by a three-person Review Panel, comprising independent Code of Conduct Commissioners, which must be satisfied that exceptional circumstances exist to justify modifying a sanction,” the statement said.”These circumstances and considerations will include whether the subject of the sanction has demonstrated genuine remorse; the subject’s conduct and behaviour since the imposition of the sanction; whether rehabilitation programs have been completed undertaken (if applicable) and the length of time that has passed since the sanction was imposed and whether sufficient time has passed to allow for reform or rehabilitation.”The code of conduct states this process: ‘Acknowledges that Players and Player Support Personnel are capable of genuine reform or rehabilitation and is intended to provide the Player or Player Support Personnel with an opportunity to resume their previously held positions or responsibilities in specific circumstances.'”The hearing of an application is not an appeal, or a review of the original sanction imposed.”Warner, 36, has been keen on returning to a leadership role having captained in the IPL since his CA leadership ban and the current Australian selection panel has been eager to get Warner’s situation resolved as they look to broaden their leadership options, particularly in limited overs cricket.Warner has hinted that he is keen to play international cricket through until the 2024 T20 World Cup, with Australia likely to need a new T20I captain for that tournament. He is unlikely to be needed to captain in the ODI format ahead of the World Cup, despite his frustration at not being eligible at the time of Cummins’ appointment. Cummins has support in Josh Hazlewood, Steven Smith and Alex Carey who have all now captained at least once in the ODI format and will all likely be locks in the ODI squad for the World Cup in India next year. But with the exception of Hazlewood, none of the other three are guaranteed to be playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Warner could come into the frame as the T20I leader if his ban is overturned as Australia do not play T20I cricket until August of next year.Warner does not know when he will get the chance to formally apply to a three-person Review Panel given his heavy playing schedule over the next few months, with Australia set to play five Test matches between November 30 and January 8.Warner is then set to play in the BBL for Sydney Thunder under coach Trevor Bayliss. The pair worked together as captain-coach at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Warner stated he would be keen to captain Thunder if he was wanted and if the lifetime ban had been modified in time.”If they would like me to do it, I’m happy to put my hand up,” Warner said. “I’ve worked with TB [Bayliss] before. I know a fair few of the players and they know my understanding of the game and what I can bring to the table. But if that decision was up to them, and they’d asked me to do it, then I’d like to push that forward as fast as we can.”

This will be Kusal Mendis’ 50th T20I, making him the 13th Sri Lankan to the milestone.Quotes”They are a very exciting team, you can see a lot of emotion is also there because obviously what happened in the past in the country and that gave them more motivation to go out there and be in a zone that they’re ready to do anything and everything possible. And they play like a group, like brothers, so Sri Lanka is a very good team and we will hope that we have a clash which entertains everyone.”
“In T20s it’s the day [that matters], so it depends on the day. The underdog can come up and do well. We have the confidence with us that we can beat [India] on our day, we need to maintain the standards, the quality of cricket we play.”

Clement could drop £25m gem to unleash "awkward" star vs St Mirren

Glasgow Rangers now know their opponents in the last-16 of the Europa League following the draw on Friday afternoon.

Fenerbahce will stand between the Ibrox side and a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals as José Mourinho travels to Scotland.

It promises to be a thrilling tie, and with the Gers playing the second leg at home, they hold the advantage as they seek a berth in the last eight.

The competition marks the only chance of winning any silverware in what has been a depressing campaign, recently culminating in the embarrassing Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park a couple of weeks ago.

The Premiership title race is all but over, as Celtic are currently 13 points clear with just 12 games remaining as they close in on their fourth league crown in a row.

Philippe Clement will be lucky to be in a job next season, especially if the reported takeover by the 49ers goes through in the next couple of months.

This weekend, the Light Blues take on St Mirren at Ibrox, but they could trail top spot by 16 points by the time they kick-off.

Rangers team news against St Mirren

Rangers still have a few players out injured, notably in defence. Indeed, Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo will likely be missing for the next few weeks.

Danilo has been missing for a few weeks due to suffering a shoulder injury against Aberdeen in January, but he could be back sooner rather than later.

Rangers midfielder Dujon Sterling.

“Danilo trained all week but still without contact, he will be back in normal contact training next week.” Said Clement prior to the Hearts clash last weekend.

The St Mirren game will perhaps come too soon for him to start, but a few minutes towards the end of the clash could be beneficial.

Aside from this, Clement appears to have a strong squad to choose from ahead of the domestic clash.

Chalkboard

Could he make a change or two from the 3-1 win last weekend, however? Especially as Hamza Igamane failed to demonstrate his true qualities against the Jambos.

Hamza Igamane has been poor recently for Rangers

Between December 1 and January 15, Igamane scored ten goals while chipping in with another two assists as he emerged as a key player for Clement throughout the festive season.

Since his goal against Aberdeen last month, the Moroccan has failed to score in any of the club’s previous six matches.

Igamane has arguably been one of the few bright sparks of an otherwise horrendous campaign and the club stands to rake in a significant profit on the centre-forward.

Following the Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur in December, it was reported that Everton had sent scouts to monitor the former AS FAR player.

These links with the Toffees continued into the winter transfer window, but the Gers were certainly reluctant to sell one of their newfound prized assets, placing a staggering £25m price tag on his head to deter any clubs from making a move.

Against Hearts last week, he showed some nice touches, but has the recent transfer speculation gone to his head? Since the window closed, he hasn’t quite been at his best.

He completed just 58% of his passes against the Tynecastle side, while failing to get a shot on target and winning just six of his 12 ground duels throughout the game.

Could Clement drop him for the tie against St Mirren, restoring Cyriel Dessers to the starting XI instead?

Cyriel Dessers could start against St Mirren

The season before arriving at Ibrox, Dessers scored ten goals in all competitions, including six in Serie A, and this impressed Michael Beale.

Journalist Josh Bunting hailed the striker towards the end of that season, saying: “Cyriel Dessers has been an excellent signing for Cremonese, can honestly look back at the end of the season and said he’s tried in everything in his power to keep them up. He’s scored again as they lead against Empoli at the break. Just so awkward to play against with his strength.”

Cyriel Dessers

Not many of the Ibrox faithful would agree that he has been an excellent signing for Rangers. Yes, his goalscoring record is certainly impressive, netting 40 goals in 93 appearances, which works out as a goal every 2.3 games.

Add in 15 assists and it is clear the statistics appear solid. Performance-wise, however, Dessers has struggled. Last term, he missed a staggering 27 big chances in the Premiership.

He may be strong on the ball and willing to create chances for others, but Dessers simply lacks that clinical nature in front of goal.

He has scored against Manchester United this season with a well-taken effort, but recently, the Nigerian striker has been forced to watch from the bench due to Igamane’s form.

He entered the pitch with 20 minutes to go against Hearts and looked lively. The player had a goal chalked off for offside, while he succeeded with one dribble, completed 100% of his passes and took 12 touches.

Journalist Cameron Willis gave Dessers a match rating of 7/10 for his cameo display, praising his hold-up play while also lauding how effective the centre-forward had been in the build-up to the crucial third goal.

Giving Igamane a rest this weekend by unleashing Dessers for his first start since the start of the month could be a possibility.

If so, he should be ready to take his chance, especially as Danilo looks close to a return to full fitness.

Is he the man to lead Rangers into their potentially new era under the 49ers? Probably not, but at this moment in time, Dessers could score a few between now and the end of the season.

The league title is out of reach, but if he performs in Europe, perhaps another excellent run in the competition could be on the cards.

– O professor, no intervalo, conversou com a gente e consertou os nossos erros. No segundo tempo, a arbitragem estava picotando, picotando o jogo toda hora.
